2.3. Descriptions of the Major Computing Disciplines
In this section, we characterize each of the five major computing disciplines. See Sections 3.4 and 3.5 for
more information on how to understand this important distinction between the names of the computing
disciplines and the names of a particular degree program.
2.3.1. Computer Engineering
Computer engineering is concerned with the design and construction of computers and computer-based
systems. It involves the study of hardware, software, communications, and the interaction among them.
Its curriculum focuses on the theories, principles, and practices of traditional electrical engineering and
mathematics and applies them to the problems of designing computers and computer-based devices.
Computer engineering students study the design of digital hardware systems including communications
systems, computers, and devices that contain computers. They study software development, focusing on
software for digital devices and their interfaces with users and other devices. CE study may emphasize
hardware more than software or there may be a balanced emphasis. CE has a strong engineering flavor.
Currently, a dominant area within computing engineering is embedded systems, the development of
devices that have software and hardware embedded in them. For example, devices such as cell phones,
digital audio players, digital video recorders, alarm systems, x-ray machines, and laser surgical tools all
require integration of hardware and embedded software and all are the result of computer engineering.
2.3.2. Computer Science
Computer science spans a wide range, from its theoretical and algorithmic foundations to cutting-edge
developments in robotics, computer vision, intelligent systems, bioinformatics, and other exciting areas.
We can think of the work of computer scientists as falling into three categories.
• They design and implement software. Computer scientists take on challenging programming jobs.
They also supervise other programmers, keeping them aware of new approaches.
• They devise new ways to use computers. Progress in the CS areas of networking, database, and
human-computer-interface enabled the development of the World Wide Web. Now CS researchers are
working with scientists from other fields to make robots become practical and intelligent aides, to use
databases to create new knowledge, and to use computers to help decipher the secrets of our DNA.
• They develop effective ways to solve computing problems. For example, computer scientists develop
the best possible ways to store information in databases, send data over networks, and display complex
images. Their theoretical background allows them to determine the best performance possible, and their
study of algorithms helps them to develop new approaches that provide better performance.

Computer science spans the range from theory through programming. Curricula that reflect this breadth
are sometimes criticized for failing to prepare graduates for specific jobs. While other disciplines may
produce graduates with more immediately relevant job-related skills, computer science offers a
comprehensive foundation that permits graduates to adapt to new technologies and new ideas.
2.3.3. Information Systems
Information systems specialists focus on integrating information technology solutions and business
processes to meet the information needs of businesses and other enterprises, enabling them to achieve
their objectives in an effective, efficient way. This discipline’s perspective on information technology
emphasizes information, and views technology as an instrument for generating, processing, and
distributing information. Professionals in the discipline are primarily concerned with the information that
computer systems can provide to aid an enterprise in defining and achieving its goals, and the processes
that an enterprise can implement or improve using information technology. They must understand both
technical and organizational factors, and they must be able to help an organization determine how
information and technology-enabled business processes can provide a competitive advantage.
The information systems specialist plays a key role in determining the requirements for an organization’s
information systems and is active in their specification, design, and implementation. As a result, such
professionals require a sound understanding of organizational principles and practices so that they can
serve as an effective bridge between the technical and management communities within an organization,
enabling them to work in harmony to ensure that the organization has the information and the systems it
needs to support its operations. Information systems professionals are also involved in designing
technology-based organizational communication and collaboration systems.
A majority of Information Systems (IS) programs are located in business schools. All IS degrees
combine business and computing coursework. A variety of IS programs exist under various labels which
often reflect the nature of the program. For example, programs in Computer Information Systems usually
have the strongest technology focus, while programs in Management Information Systems emphasize the
organizational and behavioral aspects of IS. Degree program names are not always consistent.
2.3.4. Information Technology
Information technology is a label that has two meanings. In the broadest sense, the term information
technology is often used to refer to all of computing. In academia, it refers to undergraduate degree
programs that prepare students to meet the computer technology needs of business, government,
healthcare, schools, and other kinds of organizations. In some nations, other names are used for such
degree programs.
In the previous section, we said that Information Systems focuses on the information aspects of
information technology. Information Technology is the complement of that perspective: its emphasis is
on the technology itself more than on the information it conveys. IT is a new and rapidly growing field
that started as a grassroots response to the practical, everyday needs of business and other organizations.
Today, organizations of every kind are dependent on information technology. They need to have
appropriate systems in place. These systems must work properly, be secure, and upgraded, maintained,
and replaced as appropriate. Employees throughout an organization require support from IT staff who
understand computer systems and their software and are committed to solving whatever computer-related
problems they might have. Graduates of information technology programs address these needs.
Degree programs in information technology arose because degree programs in the other computing
disciplines were not producing an adequate supply of graduates capable of handling these very real needs.
IT programs exist to produce graduates who possess the right combination of knowledge and practical,
hands-on expertise to take care of both an organization’s information technology infrastructure and the
people who use it. IT specialists assume responsibility for selecting hardware and software products

appropriate for an organization, integrating those products with organizational needs and infrastructure,
and installing, customizing, and maintaining those applications for the organization’s computer users.
Examples of these responsibilities include the installation of networks; network administration and
security; the design of web pages; the development of multimedia resources; the installation of
communication components; the oversight of email systems; and the planning and management of the
technology lifecycle by which an organization’s technology is maintained, upgraded, and replaced.
2.3.5. Software Engineering
Software engineering is the discipline of developing and maintaining software systems that behave
reliably and efficiently, are affordable to develop and maintain, and satisfy all the requirements that
customers have defined for them. This reflects its origins as outlined in Section 2.2.2. More recently, it
has evolved in response to factors such as the growing impact of large and expensive software systems in
a wide range of situations and the increased importance of software in safety-critical applications.
Software engineering is different in character from other engineering disciplines due to both the
intangible nature of software and the discontinuous nature of software operation. It seeks to integrate the
principles of mathematics and computer science with the engineering practices developed for tangible,
physical artifacts. Prospective students can expect to see software engineering presented in two contexts.
• Degree programs in computer science offer one or more software engineering courses as elements of
the CS curriculum. Some offer a multi-course concentration in software engineering within CS.
• A number of institutions offer a software engineering degree program.
Degree programs in computer science and in software engineering have many courses in common.
Software engineering students learn more about software reliability and maintenance and focus more on
techniques for developing and maintaining software that is correct from its inception. While CS students
are likely to have heard of the importance of such techniques, the engineering knowledge and experience
provided in SE programs go beyond what CS programs can provide. The importance of this fact is so
great that one of the recommendations of the SE report is that, during their program of study, students of
SE should participate in the development of software to be used in earnest by others. SE students learn
how to assess customer needs and develop usable software that meets those needs. Knowing how to
provide genuinely useful and usable software is of paramount importance.
In the workplace, the term software engineer is a job label. There is no standard definition for this term
when used in a job description. Its meaning varies widely among employers. It can be a title equivalent to
computer programmer or a title for someone who manages a large, complex, and/or safety-critical
software project. The layman must be mindful not confuse the discipline of software engineering with the
ambiguous use of the term software engineer as used in employment advertisements and job titles.

Create a Runescape Private Server

If you always wanted to create your own runescape private server, then these are good news: It is posible! And it is quite simple. In this tutorial, you will learn how.

Getting a Source and Client

Firs of all, you need to get a Server Source, which is a pre-made server that your server will be based on. I personally recommend TestScape because it is very versatile.
Then, you need to get a Client, which will let you get on your server. MoparScape is a great client, but there's a variety of other clients just as good, if not better. When you get more experienced, you will be able to make your own client, that can even be a WebClient!
There's a good list of Sources and clients here on Moparscape forums.

Configuring your Server

Next, you need to configure your server so people can get in. To do that you need to get Java JDK.
You can download JDK from Sun.
After installing it, enter the directory where you installed it and search for a file called javac.exe. Copy to clipboard the directory where the file is located.
Now, unconpress the Source you downloaded and open compile.exe and runserver.exe with Wordpad or any other software. Change the directory to the one you have just copied to clipboard in both files.
*Note: If you get an error stating that "javac.exe isn't recognized as a command" or something similar, you must add a variable and system variable. These steps are harmless; don't worry.
1. Start>Control Panel>System>Advanced>Environmental Variables. In user variables you have to add javac. Click on new, name it javac and put in the directory on the bottom. For example, on my computer mine is like this C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_07\bin\javac. Then Click OK.
2. Now for System Variables click on new and name it javac. Then put in directory of the folder containing javac like this(may vary on your own directory):
C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_07\bin. Now hit OK and OK again. Click Apply and OK. Run the Program and it should work.
IMPORTANT: If you dont want to modify the files, theres an easier way! Get the perfect compiler, that will do all of the work for you located here.

Publishing your Server

The easiest way to publish your server is to get Hamachi (you can download it here). Install it; enter Hamachi and choose the option Create New Network. Enter any name and password.
When someone wants to enter your server he/she will have to download Hamachi and join your Network (you will have to provide the password).
At the top of Hamachi, you will see theres an IP. That's your IP, and we will use it to connect to your server.

Enter to Your Server!

Now everything is ready. Go to the Source and run Compile.exe. A black screen will appear telling you their were no errors. Now, run Runserver.exe and leave it open. As long as that file is running, your server is online. We are very close to finishing this process.

Enter the Client you downloaded. Wait until it loads, first time will take quite a while. Now, enter with any username and password and in IP write the IP we had seen before in Hamachi.
If everything goes right, you will appear somewhere in the World of RuneScape, in your own server!

Now, there are some files you need to edit. Edit this files:

-> This settings must match the number of channels. Currently 2 channels.. channel 0 and channel 1.

Open it and edit it with these parameters:

-> EXP is the rate experience that you want on your server.
-> Userlimit is the number of players you want in your server at once, GMs can log in even if the server is full.

Getting Started

Requirements:

a. A lot of patience.
b. Linux OS.
c. JDBC Driver.
d. MySQL.
e. Brain.
f. MapleGlobal Client Version 0.50.
g. SSH Client

Advancing:

1. You must edit all the files listed in INSTRUCTIONS.
2. You must install JDBC Driver, not all the servers come with it installed by default.
3. Edit the NPCs or leave them as default.
4. Upload all the files to your server.. Don't be silly and once uploaded change it to a none accessible folder in your server.

Starting Up the Server:

1. Using any SSH Client, go to the folder where all your files are located.
2. Run world, then channel, then login.

Example:

./launch_login.sh

Now you have a running server!

2)Once you are finished installing the JDK extract your JCE Unlimited Strenght Files in a folder.

3)Once you have done extracting your JCE Unlimited Strenght Files go to this directory:
"\Program Files\java\"
Note; If you have 2 discs "c:\" and "d:\" it can be in both. So check.

4)Once you have found your Java folder double click on JRE Folder and go to this directory:
"\lib\security"

MySQL Server and MySQL Tools:
Gratz to getting this far >.>. Anyways now for the SQL programs. Install both the
MySQL Server and MySQL Tools.

Note: When installing the MySQL Server they will be asking you to create a password. Just untick the box and click next. Make sure it is greyed out. Will add a small pic later.

Extracting SeansRepack:
When you downloaded Seans Repack it was in a win-rar file. Extract it anywhere you want but make sure you remember where.

MySQL Query Browser:
Open your MySQL Query Browser. It should look like a little lightning bolt. Once opened you should see this:

Then click enter or ok.

Then it should open up. To the right you should see a place called "Schemata'. Under it you should see "information_schema", "mysql", "test".

In this box right click and click "Create a new scheme" or click Ctrl+N. A box should appear. In this box write OdinMS

Now that it is created you will need to create the tables. For that go to the place where you extracted your re-pack.
Then go to this directory:
\Seans Pack\SeanPack V.5.9 Beta\Sqls

Once you are their click on odinms.

Then once you opened it, double click on your "OdinMS" schema and then click the little green "Execute Button". Pic Below.

Now that it is executed you will need to edit something in the SeanPack. So go back to where you excuted it.

Now once you get their you are going to need to change some things. First one of the most important 3 files. The channel, login and world properties. You should see it in your seanpack. Open each and one of these files in notepad. And look at pictures below.

The GBA(gameboy advance) is a common handheld gaming device that is used to play games by nintendo and possibly others. Well theres a emulator/virtual one on pc and it's free; the vba. Not only is the system free, but so is the games that goes with it! No more spending $20-40 on some cheap game. You can find every game available online and on some links provided down below. It can even connect with your friends so you may multiplayer with them up to four(4) can connect only on LAN sadly..But I believe for this issue; you can use Hamachi and play with distant friends and have fun.

How to use the singlecomp version?

Start two (three, four) VBALink windows at once.
In Options > Emulator, uncheck Pause when inactive window
If you have changed thesis before Inside VBALink go to Options > Link > Settings. and select "Single Computer"
Setup all the things, like controls, save paths & so on
If you want to use save files, you must rename them - the save file extension for VBA #1 is .sa1 (e.g. Pokemon Ruby.sa1), for #2 .sa2 etc. (the same is true for savestates - #1 has .sg1 etc.) - another solution is to import them, that works too.

How to use the LAN version?

Unzip it to a folder like c:\games\vbalink
Setup all the things, like controls, save paths & so on
Each player opens VBALink and goes to Options > Link > Settings.
(Open VBALink and push [Ctrl] + [M] on your keyboard to get there without going through the menus.
Check "Network"
If you want better speed at the cost of slightly less stability, select 'Faster' on the slidebar (recommended for wireless Pokemon)
One of you must select Server and click Start
The others choose "Client", enter the IP address or name of the server and click Connect
When all players are connected, a message box with the text "Connected" will appear.
Load GBA game rom and play!

(When someone closes the emulator, the others will become disconnected.)

Instructions for VBALink 1.72 (version 1.8 has a little different interface)

In VBA Link Options > Emulator, uncheck Pause when inactive window.

(Don't forget to do this for all 4 emulators you have started. )
In options setup all the things, like controls, save paths & so on.

(Go to Options > Joypad > Configure Joypad > 1 and set up the keys you want to use.)
Get a friend and repeat the same step on their PC.
One of you must start vbaserver.exe and when asked enter type in how many players there are (in this case 2) so type 2, and it will give you a IP that has to be entered on the other PC.
Go to Options > Link and press on LAN
Turn VBA off and wait for 3 seconds.
Go to Options > Link and use the IP you just got in the box, and press CONNECT
Now do the same for all your friends who will play.
NOTE: When starting vba server if WinXP FireWall is turned on you will see a warning. Unblock it!
Load the same gba rom / game you are gone play in all emulators.
Go to link or VS mode and choose Multi Pack (I'm using Advance Wars II in this case)

NOW you should be playing against each other

AllGoFree is a company that was founded by Ryan (last name is unknown), and Jeremy Ritter. It has established itself as a strong community for Runescape Private Server fans. AllGoFree was founded in early 2007. Worldscape has over 70,000 created accounts, and is growing vastly everyday.

Recently the old AllGoFree websites host shut down, unfortunately putting AllGoFree through some hard times. Although, after the conclusion that their old website was never coming back to life, Max, Lead Web Designer, created a new Official Website.

In comparison to Dodian; another Runescape Private Server, AllGoFree has a wide variety of designated Staff to accomplish, and execute each individual job in which assigned to them. The team is tight, and certainly cope well together.

Although, unlike a vast majority of Runescape Private Servers, Worldscape has not launched a membership service to it's players; rumor has it that membership will be launched after the launch of Worldscape Blitz.

Worldscape Blitz is a professional version of Worldscape. Worldscape Blitz is being written from sratch, and upon completion will resemble an enterprise worthy server. The estimated completion of Worldscape Blitz can be seen here.

Note: This files may be a little old. I'll do my best to give you the lastest files, but I cannot guarantee that they will always be the newest ones.

Full Guide

1) Extract the packages.

Extract the Ascent Core into a directory (e.g., c:\wowserver\ascent\).

Now, you will see that there are two important folders inside "maps" and "dbc". Maybe you already guessed, put all the maps (that you downloaded at the top of this page) , in the "maps" folder; and all the DBC (that you downloaded at the top of this page, too), in the "dbc" folder.
The "sql" folder is not important.

Next, extract the database (NCDB) to anywhere you want, only it must be extracted. And extract the Character and Logonserver Database, too.

2) Install MySQL 5.0 Essentials and configure the server.

Ok, you need to install them both.

Let's start with MySQL 5.0 Essentials. Follow the basic setup for it, no special options are needed. To be specific:

You want a Typical installation, not Complete or Custom.
Agree to start the configuration wizard when it asks.
You want a Standard configuration, not a Detailed configuration.
You want to Install As Windows Service.
You do not want root access from remote machines, and you do not want an Anonymous Account.
When it finishes, tick (or better said, don't untick) "I want to configure server now".

Another window pops up,
Just follow the instructions and set a password for your server (don't forget it!)

3) Install MySQLyog and make a user

Install it. Again, no special options are needed.
Then enter to it. A little advertisement will appear, just click continue. Then, a connection window will appear. Leave the username as "root", and in password type the one you chose when you were configuring your server.

Now it's time to make a new user. In SQLyog, go to the 'Tools' menu at the top, and then go to 'User Manager' -> 'Add User.' Create a username and password; these will be the username and password that you place in the .conf files later on. Change the host to 'localhost', and under the Global Privileges, check the boxes for 'Select,' 'Insert,' 'Update,' and 'Delete.' Press the 'Create' button at the bottom, and you are done.

4) Create 2 blank databases for Ascent

This part is fairly simple: create a new, empty database to keep the data for Ascent (the world database), and then make another one for the accounts,etc (the logonserver database).

To create a new database right click 'root@localhost' -> 'Create Database', and then enter 'Ascent' as the name. This will be your world database. We will use NCDB for it (download it in the top of this page if you haven't).
Then make another one, but choose 'logonserver' as a name. This will be your logonserver database.

You should know better, at this point, than to include the quotes in any of those statements.

5) Populate the databases

Now we will restore the sql dump to put data into the empty database. Simply right-click on the database "Ascent" in SQLyog, click "Restore from SQL Dump," and direct it to the spot where you extracted the NCDB database that you downloaded. Then click execute (may take a little time).

Now, it is time to populate the other database, the logonserver database. Just do the same, but direct it to the Character and Logonserver Database (again, the download is at the top).

6) Edit your configuration files

This part is straightforward -- you have three files to configure, in the main Antrix directory:

logonserver.conf
realms.conf
ascent.conf

Open them with the notepad. These files are well-documented. Just read through them and change values as needed until you are done, then save and exit.

Very Important: Some people are have problems with this. You do NOT have to remove the " " in the values.

7) Start the server.

At this point, Ascent is ready to use. Start logonserver.exe, and then start ascent.exe. Assuming you didn't confuse any port numbers in your configuration files, everything should be up and ready!

Congratulations! You made your own WoW Server!

Troubleshooting/Questions

How do I make accounts?

Open SQLyog and select the Logonserver database. Open the table Accounts. In it, add a new row for a new account. in it yo have to fill the ID and Password fields. Also, to be a GM put "az" in the GM field. To be able to use Burning Crusade content, set flags to 8.

Playable races

Human

The Humans of Stormwind are a resilient breed, having survived an invasion by the savage Orcs during the First War. During the Second War, the armies of Stormwind rallied with the Alliance to reclaim their homeland of Azeroth. After the success of the Second War, Stormwind was rebuilt and Human civilization began to flourish once again throughout the southlands. With the recent invasion of the Burning Legion - which left the northern kingdom of Lordaeron in ruins - Stormwind now stands as the last bastion of human civilization. Following the heroic examples of the legendary Sir Lothar and King Llane, the defenders of Stormwind are considered to be among the fiercest warriors in the land. They stand resolute in their charge to maintain the honor and might of humanity in an ever-darkening world.

Dwarf

The stoic dwarves of Ironforge are an ancient race of robust humanoids who live beneath the snow-capped mountains of Khaz Modan. The Dwarves have always been fast allies with the Humans, and they revel in the prospects of battle and storytelling alike. In past ages, the Dwarves rarely left the safety of their mountain fortresses. However, whenever the call to battle sounded, they rose up to defend their friends and allies with unmatched courage and valor. Due to a recent discovery that uncovered fragments of their ancient origins, the Dwarves have undergone a remarkable transformation. The discovery convinced the Dwarves that the mighty Titans created them from stone when the world was young. They feel that their destiny is now to search the world over for more signs and proof of their enchanted heritage and to rediscover the Titans' hidden legacies. To this end, the Dwarves have sent out their Prospectors to all ends of the world in the hopes of discovering new insight into their shrouded past. These journeys led to Dwarven excavation sites all over the known world, some of which serve as outposts and some of which serve as potential hunting grounds for enemies of the Dwarven race.

Gnome

The eccentric, often-brilliant Gnomes are one of the most peculiar races of the world. With their obsession for developing radical new technologies and constructing marvels of mind-bending engineering, it's a wonder that any Gnomes have survived to proliferate. Thriving within the wondrous techno-city of Gnomeregan, the Gnomes shared the resources of the forested Dun Morogh Peaks with their Dwarven cousins. Though the dwarves of Ironforge also have a propensity for technology and engineering - it is the gnomes who provide the critical, visionary designs for most of the Dwarves' weapons and steam vehicles. The Gnomes served the Alliance well during the Second War, but strangely, they refused to send any personnel to aid their allies during the Burning Legion's recent invasion. Though their designs helped turn the tide against the Legion, the Dwarves and Humans were shocked by the Gnomes' decision to withhold their courageous troops and pilots. When the war ended, the Alliance discovered the reason for the Gnomes' sudden withdrawal. Apparently, an ancient, barbaric menace had risen from the bowels of the earth and invaded Gnomeregan. Knowing that their allies' priority was defeating the Burning Legion, the Gnomes decided to make their stand alone. Though they fought valiantly to save their beloved city, Gnomeregan was irrevocably lost. Nearly half of the Gnomish race was wiped out during the fall of Gnomeregan. The ragged Gnomes that survived fled to the safety of the Dwarves' stronghold of Ironforge. Committed once again to the Alliance's cause, the Gnomes spend their time devising strategies and weapons that will help them retake their ravaged city and build a brighter future for their people.

Night Elf

The reclusive Night Elves were the first race to awaken in the World of Warcraft. These shadowy, immortal beings were the first to study magic and let it loose throughout the world nearly ten thousand years before Warcraft I. The Night Elves' reckless use of magic drew the Burning Legion into the world and led to a catastrophic war between the two titanic races. The Night Elves barely managed to banish the Legion from the world, but their wondrous homeland was shattered and drowned by the sea. Until recently, the Night Elves closed themselves off from the rest of the world and remained hidden atop their holy mountain of Hyjal for many thousands of years. The Legion's invasion brought the Night Elves out of their long period of slumber. They now have renewed interest in shaping the world, and for the first time are allying themselves with other races to insure the continued survival of Azeroth. As a race, Night Elves are typically honorable and just, but they are very distrusting of the 'lesser races' of the world. They are nocturnal by nature and their shadowy powers often elicit the same distrust that they have for their mortal neighbors.

Orc

The savage, green-skinned Orcs are one of the most prolific races of Azeroth. They are commonly believed to be brutal and mindless, possessing no humanity or empathy for other races. Born on the hellish world of Draenor, the Orcs were brought into the kingdom of Stormwind through the dimensional gateway known as the Dark Portal and forced to wage war on the Humans. Although few are aware of their history, the Orcs once cultivated a noble, Shamanistic society on the world of Draenor. Tragically, the proud Orc clans were corrupted by the Burning Legion and used as pawns in the Legion's invasion of Azeroth. The Orcs managed to rebel, however, and they were ultimately able to help turn the tide against their demon masters. Led by the young Warchief, Thrall, the Orcs have reclaimed their strength and honor. Now, the Orcs stand ready to fight not for the sake of conquest, but for their right to survive in their adopted world.

Troll

The vicious Jungle Trolls, who populate the numerous islands of the South Seas, are renowned for their cruelty and dark mysticism. Barbarous and superstitious, the wily Trolls carry a seething hatred for all other races. One tribe, however, was forced to overcome its prejudices when it encountered the Orc Warchief, Thrall, and his mighty Horde. The Trolls of the Darkspear tribe, long since exiled from their ancestral lands in Stranglethorn Vale, were nearly destroyed by a band of aquatic Murlocs, but Thrall and the Horde managed to save them. In return the grateful Trolls swore an oath of eternal allegiance to the Horde. Led by the cunning Shadow Hunter, Vol'jin, the Darkspear Trolls now make their home in Durotar along with their Orcish allies. Their village, named after their fallen tribal elder, Sen'jin, lies along the eastern coast of the harsh, rocky land. The Darkspear tribe also occupies tracks within the nearby jungles of the Echo Isles. As part of the Horde, the Trolls have extended their loyalty to the mighty Tauren, but they have little trust for the manipulative Forsaken, whom they believe will visit only misery and strife upon their allies.

Tauren

The Tauren are huge, bestial creatures who live in the grassy, open barrens of central Kalimdor. They live to serve nature and maintain the balance between the wild things of the land and the restless spirit of the elements. Despite their enormous size and brute strength, the remarkably peaceful Tauren cultivate a quiet, tribal society. However, when roused by conflict, Tauren are implacable enemies who will use every ounce of their strength to smash their enemies under hoof. Under the leadership of their ancient chief, Cairne Bloodhoof, the Tauren allied themselves with the Orcs during the invasion of the Burning Legion. The two races have remained steadfast allies ever since. Like the Orcs, the Tauren struggle to retain their sense of tradition and noble identity.

Undead

Having broken free from the tyrannical rule of the Lich King, a renegade group of undead seek to retain their own free will while destroying all those who oppose them. Known as the Forsaken, this group is dedicated to serving their leader, the banshee queen Sylvanas Windrunner. These dark warriors have established a secret stronghold beneath the ruins of Lordaeron's former capital city. Situated deep beneath the cursed Tirisfal Glades, the labyrinthine Undercity is a sprawling bastion of evil. Within its shadowy confines, Sylvanas' royal apothecaries scramble to develop a devastating new plague - one which will not only eradicate their hated Scourge rivals, but the rest of humanity as well. To further their dark aims, the Forsaken have entered into an alliance of convenience with the primitive, brutish races of the Horde. Holding no real loyalty for their newfound comrades, the Forsaken have duped them into fighting against their common enemy - the Lich King. Only time will tell how these disciples of doom will fare in their mission of vengeance.

Blood Elf

Thousands of years ago, the exiled Highborne landed on the shores of Lordaeron and founded the enchanted kingdom of Quel'Thalas. These high elves, as they called themselves, created a fount of vast, magical energies within the heart of their land - the Sunwell. Over time, they grew dependant on the Sunwell's unstable energies - regardless of the bitter lessons they'd learned in ages past. During the Third War, the villainous Prince Arthas invaded Quel'Thalas and reduced the once-mighty realm to rubble and ashes. His undead army decimated nearly ninety percent of the high elven population. In addition, he used the Sunwell's energies to resurrect Kel'thuzad - a powerful undead Lich - thereby fouling the Sunwell's mystical waters. The few elven survivors, realizing that they had been cut off from the source of their arcane power, grew increasingly volatile and desperate. In the midst of the elves' darkest hour came Kael'thas Sunstrider - the last of Quel'Thalas' royal bloodline. Kael, as he was commonly known, knew that the remnant of his people would not long survive without the nourishing magics that once empowered them. Renaming his people blood elves, in honor of their fallen countrymen, he taught them how to tap into ambient mystical energies - even demonic energies - in order to sate their terrible thirst for magic. In search of a new destiny for his people, Kael'thas ventured to the remote world of Outland where he encountered the fallen night elf, Illidan. Under Illidan's tutelage, Kael and his blood elves have regained much of their former power. Unfortunately, the blood elves' practice of embracing demonic energies resulted in them being shunned by their former comrades in the Alliance. Thus, the remaining blood elves on Azeroth look desperately to the Horde to help them reach Outland, where they can reunite with Kael'thas and achieve the golden destiny he promised them.

Draenei

Almost 25,000 years ago, a faction of uncorrupted eredar led by Velen fled their home world of Argus, calling themselves the draenei ("the Exiled Ones"). After traveling through the cosmos they finally found a world which they called Draenor ("Exile's Refuge"). They at first shared a peaceful existence with the native orcs and traded with them. They followed the path of the Holy Light of Creation as shown to them by the naaru. Unfortunately, Kil'jaeden eventually discovered the refuge, and found the combat-driven and honor-seeking orcs to be easily manipulated. As a potent act of vengeance and a safety precaution, Kil'jaeden ordered the draenei to be exterminated by the orcs through his student, the warlock Gul'dan. After the Dark Portal was destroyed, Draenor collapsed in on itself, and what remained was a sundered mass of planetary debris and floating asteroids hovering in stasis within the Twisting Nether. The regions of Draenor that are still habitable are now known as Outland. Draenor was not the only thing to change in this ordeal, as some draenei were altered by the destruction of their world, and became known as the Broken. Some of these corrupted draenei fled through the open portals on draenor and settled in the Swamp of Sorrows on the world of Azeroth. Several of these Lost Ones were driven mad by the absence of their home world, and sank into an even deeper primitive state. A number of draenei still remain untainted, and it is these that have crashed onto Azeroth in a dimensional traveling ship sabotaged by the malicious blood elves of Outland (not the blood elves that joined the horde). The draenei are the new Alliance race in the Burning Crusade expansion.

Internet can be used to:

These are some words you may find, related to the Internet, that you should know:

Anonymous FTP--a means for receiving files from a remote computer without having to have an account with the remote system. Many commercial enterprises maintain anonymous ftp sites for the convenience of their customers so that customers can download updated program files directly to their machines without having to request and receive diskettes through the mail.

Archie--a computer system that manages a database of files that are available on over 1500 computer systems. About 40 Archie servers worldwide share and update the database on a monthly basis.

.com--These are commercial sites, which may include corporate homepages or individual users's homepages. Commercial sites provide users with reliable information about business enterprises, product information, online technical support for software and hardware, and, in many cases, online product ordering capabilities. Since commercial sites may also provide Internet access to individuals, be wary of sources that have no obvious connection to a business enterprise. Example of a corporate Web site: Microsoft

DNS (domain name system)--a system for assigning addresses to computers and people connected to the Internet. The name can be represented both with words and with numbers. Domain name servers "resolve" internet names and assign numeric addresses so that one computer can find another over the Internet.

.edu--Addresses ending in this extension indicate that you are connecting to a university, college, or other school computer system. These sites can contain both authoritative and frivolous information, depending on the institution's user policies. Home Page--the opening information provided by a web site. Typically, a home page provides background on the information provider and links to other information sources, both local to the remote computer system and also on other systems worldwide.

HTML (Hypertext Mark-up Language)--a standard for presenting information on the World Wide Web. Documents formatted for html include codes that allow text to be displayed with various fonts, sizes, and attributes as well as instructions to load pictures, sounds, and motion pictures.

HTTP (hypertext transfer protocol)--a set of rules by which information is transmitted across the Internet. HTTP provides a transport system for your local computer to receive data from another computer.

Hyperlink--a link to additional information either within a web document or in other web documents. Hyperlinks are indicated by highlighting and/or underlining within a web page.

Internet--A world wide interconnection of computer systems that are able to communicate with each other using a common set of protocols. The standard for internet communication is called TCP/IP. TCP/IP allows computers, regardless of operating systems (DOS, Windows, UNIX, etc.), to exchange data. The internet had its foundations with ARPANET, an interconnection of computers worldwide that assisted the U.S. Department of Defense to maintain secure contacts worldwide in the event of national emergency.

JPEG (joint photographic experts group)--another standard for presenting images over the Internet.

.mil--This designates a military body, such as the Pentagon.

MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions)--Files available over the Internet may be saved in many formats, including plain text, html, and gif. Web browsers use MIME type definitions to identify file formats.

MPEG (motion picture experts group)--one of several standards for presenting motion pictures over the Internet.

.org--These are associations or other non-commercial organizations that maintain Internet sites. Much research can be obtained from professional and research organizations. These sites typically will be reliable. Example of an organizational Web site: The United Nations

Search Engine--Software that facilitates searching keyword indexes of Internet documents. Well-known Internet search engines include AltaVista, Lycos, HotBot, and Google. Search engines vary widely in their coverage of the Internet, the largest indexing nearly 3.1 billion Web pages. So-called metacrawlers can be used to return top listings from numerous search engines at one time. A more structured means of finding information on the Internet is to use a Web directory like Yahoo or Google Directoy. Directories of Internet content take an approach similar to traditional catalogs and indexes in that they are based on predefined subjects and provide access to materials that, in many cases, have been reviewed.

TCP/IP (transmission control protocol/internet protocol)--This set of protocols manages connections between computer systems. Data is sent over TCP/IP in packets, small chunks of data that are keyed to other packets that are needed to complete the transmission of a file. Every document that you view or every file that you receive over the Internet is sent piecemeal via phone using the TCP/IP protocols.

Telnet--an application that allows a user to connect to a remote computer and use it as though the user's computer was a terminal connected directly to it. This includes allowing the user to run programs based on the remote machine. For example, you can connect to LUIS using telnet.

TIFF (tagged image file format)--another picture format used on the Internet.

TN3270--Telnet 3270 is a form of telnet that makes your computer look like a terminal connected to an IBM mainframe computer. You can reach LUIS, for example, through an Internet connection using TN3270.

URL (uniform resource locator)--The URL identifies to a Web browser the address and type of Internet resource to which your computer is connecting. Types of resources include HTML servers, gopher servers, veronica servers, and ftp servers, each of which has its own set of protocols.

Veronica--a comprehensive, keyword searchable menu of approximately 10,000 internet sources worldwide.

VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language)--Still under development, VRML is currently used for three dimensional image representation on the WEB.

Web Browser--a computer program, like Netscape, Microsoft Internet Explorer, and Mozilla, that can connect to a web server and retrieve information on demand.

Web Crawler--a computerized "robot" that connects to responding computer systems, follows links to documents, and compiles an index of those links and the information available via the links. Also known as "knowbots," some of the most familiar crawlers include WebCrawler and Lycos.

Web Server--a computer system that offers information over the World Wide Web.

World Wide Web--an interconnection of computer information systems available via the Internet. The Web supports the graphical user interface (GUI) that is so familiar to Macintosh and Windows users. Additionally, the Web can also support sound, pictures, and motion pictures.

How to Play on Battle.net for free

So you have a cracked Warcraft III instalation with an illegal key. And you want to play on Battle.net. Well, actually playing on the official servers is no posible. But you can play on "private" servers, also known as PvPGn servers.

This tutorial will guide you through the process.

How to set up Warcraft III to play on PvPGN servers

You need a loader:

Run the Battle.net (TM) gateway editor, make sure you select the WarCraft tab at at the bottom of the window, add the server you wish to connect to. Make it the default server if you wish.

Download and install the WarCraft III loader simply copy the 2 files (exe and dll) to your Program Files folder, and run the exe.

There are 6 Major cities in World Of Warcraft.Each of the major cities represents the capital and a major hub for the races that inhabit them. The cities are all radically different from each other in themes and appearances. More than just a collection of buildings with NPCs standing around, the cities will serve as a place for adventuring, shopping, training, socializing, and much more.

	City Residents: Humans

[Found in: Elwynn Forest]

The city of Stormwind stands as the last bastion of Human power in Azeroth. Rebuilt after the Second War, Stormwind is a marvel of Human design and engineering. Stormwind's guards keep the peace within the city's walls, while the young king, Anduin Wrynn, rules from his mighty keep. The Bazaar District bustles with trade from across the continent and beyond, while Warriors of every sort can be found wandering the streets of Old Town. In Arthas's absence, the Dark Lady, Sylvanas Windrunner, led the rebel Forsaken to the Undercity, and claimed it for her own. Since taking up residence, the Forsaken have worked to complete the Undercity's construction by dredging the twisted maze of catacombs, tombs, and dungeons that Arthas began.

Hacking your PSP

So you have your own PSP, and would like to "hack" it? So what are the advantages? you will say. Well, I think that "Hacking your PSP" is not the most appropiate title, as it can be legal if you don't use copyrighted material, I like "Unlocking your PSP" much more.

Why? Because your PSP is a lot better than you think! Actually, it could run homebrew (software for PSP), you could play downloaded games for free off a Memory Stick (We have a game download list here), have many features, if Sony hadn't limited its power. Some examples of useful homebrew are PSPradio (allows you to listen to radio from your PSP), a Messenger for PSP, in fact, a lot of incredible things.

So what are you waiting for? "Hack" your PSP now! Of course, Sony doesn't want you to do it, as you could use it to play games for free, and not buying them, so it puts some limits to hacking. But there are still ways to do it, and here are the instructions!:

Downgrading your PSP

First you have to downgrade (which basically means the oposite to upgrade) your PSP's firmware, to 1.50. When you have this firmware, it will allow you to run homebrew from it, including loaders (that will allow you to play games off your Memory Stick).

There are many methods to downgrade your PSP to 1.50. Actually, the higher your actual firmware, the harder to downgrade, as Sony keeps adding more and More security. You can find all this downgrading methods on our PSP Downgrading guide.

However, there are some exceptions to this. Actually, there are HENs (Homebrew ENablers) that let you run homebrew from your actual firmware.However, I do not recommend them, as they cannot run all Homebrew and don't allow you to do many things, like customizing your XMB. The HENs that exist are:

- 3.50 Lumines Exploit
- GTA (Grand Theft Auto) Exploit

Downgrading your PSP

You may want to downgrade it back to 1.50, so you can "unlock" it to enjoy new content (more info here). How easy it will be to downgrade your PSP depends on the current legal firmware it has. The higher the firmware, the harder to downgrade.

You can see what firmware your PSP comes with, even before buying it. You can try to read thecode in the back part,which has a letter thatindicates the current firmware (see the image).
And, according to the letter, you can guess what firmware it has:

You can see your current firmware from your PSP (always check it this way), by entering the system menu, then system information, and it should show your firmware version.

Time to Downgrade!

Now, according to the firmware you have, you can downgrade. If you have 1.50 or left, you don't need to downgrade (as you already have the desired firmware, lol). If you have higher than 1.50, pick your best method:

1.51 - 2.00

For these firmwares we have the easiest way of all, we are proud to present...

2.00 Downgrading Method

Update to 2.00 if you have less, and try that method! (there are NO requirements)

Of course, another option isthe Pandora's battery method, that you can always use, for any firmware (requires extra battery + another 1.50 PSP to copy files)

2.00 - 2.71

There is another downgrading method for these (like the 2.00 one, there are no requirements). If you have these firmwares, update to 2.71, and try this method!

2.71 Downgrading Method

Again, another option isthe Pandora's battery method, that you can always use, for any firmware (requires extra battery + another 1.50 PSP to copy files)

2.80

If you have 2.80 firmware, we have another method for you! Once more, there are no extra items required, so you can try it now!

2.80 Downgrading Method

Once more, Again, another option isthe Pandora's battery method, that you can always use, for any firmware (requires extra battery + another 1.50 PSP to copy files)

2.80 - 3.03

If you have more than 2.80, you will have to use another kind of downgrader. It requires an unpatched UMD of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (GTA: LCS for short). You will have to buy that game to use this method. And I say unpatched because new versions of the game have been patched by Sony so they no longer work. So, it IS hard to get this game, I warn you.

GTA Downgrading Method

As it is hard to use this method, I really recommendyou to use the Pandora's battery method, for any firmware (requires extra battery + another 1.50 PSP to copy files).

Or, you can also upgrade to 3.50, and use the Lumines downgrading method (explained below).

3.50

If you have your firmware up to 2.50, you can use this method. However, it requires to have a legal UMD of Lumines, that, like the GTA: LCS, is a little hard to get. Here is the guide:

Lumines Downgrading Method

As it is hard to use this method, I really recommendyou to use the Pandora's battery method, for any firmware (requires extra battery + another 1.50 PSP to copy files).

3.50 - 3.71+

If you have more than 3.50, then only available method is Pandora's battery. It is the most amazing method of all, and it is a little complicated, but you can do it. It is also very safe, as you cannot brick your PSP (and unbrick it if you have it bricked). This method requires extra battery + another 1.50 PSP to copy files. You also need a Memory Stick PRO Duo, to turn it into a Magic Memory Stick (more info in the guide).

Pandora's Battery Method

You are free to enjoy it!

Final Note

When you are done downgrading, you should have an 1.50 PSP. You can continue with the Hacking your PSP guide, now with your 1.50 PSP, so you can enjoy all the "unlocked" features.
